Luke 1:25-28 – Unsolicited Help
Unsolicited – Given or supplied without being requested or asked for.
In the above scripture, the Bible tells us:
That the Angel Gabriel was sent by God.
The Angel was sent to a particular city and a particular woman in that city.
The Angel came to deliver what can be considered astounding news – easily the greatest news anyone has ever received.
However, we will notice that the recipient of this news – Mary – did not pray for such news. In fact, she had other plans of her own (to get married to her husband-to-be Joseph and start a family). But the Angel Gabriel came and announced the great news and the plan of God for her. And her life never remained the same again.
What can we learn?
Mary did not pray for this news she just received.
The help she received was completely unsolicited.
She received this news and this help from God solely based on the decision of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
When that news came, it completely disrupted her own plans and launched her on a different plan – far better than what she had planned for herself.
Other examples of unsolicited help from God:
The man by the pool of Bethesda – John 5:1-9
There was at the pool of Bethesda many impotent folk (many people that needed help).
Among this crowd of sick people, there was a man also at the pool who had been an invalid for 38 years.
Jesus saw him and singled him out for healing.
This man did not solicit for help; the help he received was volunteered by Jesus.
This man had his own agenda (to get into the water first after the angel had moved the water).
But because he was favored by God, help came for him and that help altered permanently his own plan.
He received a new plan from God and his life was never the same again.
The widow of Nain – Luke 7:11-17
A widow was going to bury her only son – something no parent should ever have to do.
To make matters worse, she had lost her husband and she was old (double whammy).
There were many people (sympathizers) around her crying with her.
Jesus saw her in that state and had compassion on her.
The favor of God located this woman in her hopeless case.
She had other plans – to bury her only son and wait for death to come for her as well.
But the favor of God came knocking; soon compassion followed and joy unspeakable was given birth to.
This woman, similar to the others, received a new plan from God and her life never remained the same.
Implications/Lessons learned?
None of these three people asked God for what they received – it was completely unsolicited.
One common thread in all these stories is that they were all favored by God.
It is such an awesome thing to experience God’s favor.
One day of God’s favor is better than a lifetime of labor.

The Oil of Joy 
Amen! Favor is fair, and the blessed thing about favor is those connected to the person with the favor are blessed in the process, as well. That is why it pays to be connected to the right people.

Sadly, men (as opposed to women) have a tendency to resent unsolicited help, because they want to think they can do it on their own. That can block a lot of blessings!
