“He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.” (Psalm 112:7)
We are living in a day when many are fearful and troubled. It could be because of hidden sin, the widespread wickedness in this world, or Covid 19.
In today’s Bible reading Paul encouraged the Thessalonian believers to, “be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit nor by word.” Paul also wrote to Timothy (2 Timothy 1:7), “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, love, and a sound mind.” The Psalms also have many verses encouraging us not to be fearful but to trust in the Lord. “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).
If we are on God’s side, we have nothing to fear. But if we have not joined His side, we are rightly fearful and troubled because of sin in our life. We need to repent and confess our sins, and God will forgive us, remove all fear, and give us peace in its place. “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27).
If we belong to Jesus, we can claim His promise that He is building a home in Heaven for us. Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself.” (John 14:2-3).
God will remove all fear as we walk closely with Him, and finally, He will take us to Heaven, where there is no fear forever.
The faithful defeat fickle fear.
